How to Roast Jalapenos
Whenever the climate changes to warm and sunny, people cannot help but think about barbecues, grilled treats, flame-cooked recipes, etc.
Just because you’re on a diet doesn’t mean that you have to do without the tremendous spicy taste of roasted jalapenos. Of course, you’ll have to make some changes to the usual popper recipe but compared with the alternative of not eating them at all.
Jalapeno poppers are usually stuffed with cheese, battered and deep fried. Sometimes they also contain bacon or sausage or even ground beef. They’re delicious but not very healthy. But underneath all the fried batter is still a jalapeno pepper.
How to Roast Jalapenos
If you have an exceptional harvest of jalapenos or if you are trying to try a new flavor, roast them. Add a lightly smoked flavor; roast the jalapeno peppers on a hot grill. If you don’t have a grill, you can roast the peppers directly on the gas burner of your stove. Or array the peppers on a baking sheet. Sprinkle with a little oil and roast until soft and black. Once you have finished roasting the peppers on the grill, on the stove or in the oven, steam and peel them. Enjoy your peppers or keep them for later.
Roast the jalapenos on the grill for 5 minutes.
Rinse the jalapeños peppers to remove the dirt. Take out as many jalapeños as you want to roast. Wash with fresh water to remove dirt or sand.
Cut the stems and peel the jalapenos peppers. Put on a pair of latex or vinyl gloves and remove the bowl of peppers. Take a small knife and cut the stem of each pepper. Rub the skins gently with gloved fingers to flake off. Discard the skins.
Preheat the oven and clean the jalapenos. Turn the oven on at 218 ° C (425 ° F) and take out a rimmed baking sheet. Rinse as many jalapeños as you like, roast them and dry them on a cloth.
Put a bowl on roasted jalapeno peppers. Once you have removed the roasted jalapeno peppers from the grill, oven or range, place them on a flat cutting surface. Take a large bowl and turn it upside down over the jalapeno peppers.
Flip and cook the jalapeños for at least 5 minutes more. Remove the grill lid and turn the jalapeños over with a long tong. Let the jalapeno peppers roast on the grill and flip them frequently to blister and black on all sides. This should take an extra 5 to 10 minutes.
Finish jalapeno peppers by steaming and peeling them. Put on rubber gloves. Take the lid off the bowl and peel the skin off of the jalapeno peppers with your fingers. Feel ease in chopping up the jalapeno peppers and use them in a recipe or cut off the tops of the peppers and stuff them to make jalapeno poppers.
